A popular Vancouver barbershop says it will soon close the doors of its Gastown location.

In a recent post on social media, Judah Down, founder of JD’s Barbershop, announced that the shop’s “time in Gastown will come to an end” on March 31.

“For 23 years, JD’s has been more than just a barbershop — it’s been a home, a community, a place where friendships were built, and memories that will last a lifetime. I can’t thank you enough for being part of this journey,” stated Down.

He noted that the reason for shuttering the Gastown shop was due to challenges over the past few years which have “made it impossible to continue.”

Community members flooded the post’s comments to express their sadness about the closure and their gratitude for Down and his business.

“This hurts đź’” It was an absolute pleasure to represent your brand. I have nothing but happy memories here. Thank you so much, Judah,” said one individual.

“Thank you [Judah Down] for taking us baby barbers under your wing. Legendary times! We will always hold those memories near and dear,” said another.

Another commenter said Down was a “leader in the rebirth of the barbershop.”

Citing the start of a “new chapter,” Down noted that JD’s at Vancouver Club will continue its members-only services.

“From the bottom of my heart — thank you for every visit, every conversation, and every moment we’ve shared. I hope to see you all again soon,” he stated.

Daily Hive has reached out to JD’s for further comment and will update this story when we hear back.
