Police are investigating after a Langley RCMP officer opened fire inside a residence in Surrey.

On July 3 at approximately 2:30 am, Langley RCMP responded to reports of an injured woman at a home in the 20100-block of 68 Avenue in Langley.

A police report explains that the investigation progressed and led officers to a residence in the 19300-block of 72A Avenue in Surrey.

Inside the residence, police officers were confronted by a “distraught man” who allegedly produced a weapon.

In response, one officer discharged their firearm.

No one was injured in the shooting but the distraught man was transported to the hospital after being apprehended under the BC Mental Health Act.

The Surrey RCMP’s General Investigation Unit is investigating the use of the officer’s firearm, while the Langley RCMP investigate the initial call for help.
