A police investigation has been launched after a body was found in a forest near the University of British Columba (UBC) this week.

The University RCMP says in a statement that the discovery was made on Wednesday, in a “wooded” area in the University Endowment Lands, located off SW Marine Drive and Wesbrook Mall.

Both the RCMP’s Major Crime Section and the BC Coroners Service have launched separate investigations to “determine the details and circumstances” surrounding the male’s death.

Police say that “given the decomposed nature of the remains,” there’s not believed to any risk to the general public.

The investigation remains ongoing.
