Vancouver's Hycroft Manor to host "Bridgerton"-inspired garden party next month

If you’ve always wanted to experience a garden party straight out of Bridgerton, then this might be your chance.
The Hycroft Heritage Preservation Foundation will host a rare public event, offering Vancouverites an afternoon of wine and light bites within its storied garden estate.
Located in the heart of Shaughnessy, Hycroft is an Edwardian-era estate featuring Italianate architecture and an expansive garden set on over two acres.
For one day only, guests will be able to step through the moss-covered original gate on Marpole Avenue and experience a garden party that is reminiscent of another era.
Enjoy a welcome beverage from Renaissance Wine, accompanied by light bites and a no-host bar. Additionally, there will be special wine tastings featuring Cedar Creek Wines by Mark Anthony Wine and Spirits, as well as various other sponsors.

“As one of the first places in Vancouver to be designated as a significant heritage resource by the City of Vancouver, the history and legacy of the Hycroft estate and gardens is unparalleled,” said Edith Hewitt from the Hycroft Heritage Preservation Foundation. “Today, we are thrilled to be able to share our cherished estate with the public during our inaugural Hycroft Secret Garden Party, with all proceeds of the event going towards preserving this exemplary property.”

Hycroft was built in 1911 by General Alexander McRae as a grand family residence and was eventually given to the Canadian government during the Second World War.
Today, the University Women’s Club of Vancouver are the owner and steward of the property. The group originally bought the estate in 1962, raising the cash necessary to pay for it through their own initiatives because, at that time, women were not eligible to apply for a bank loan or mortgage.

Guided tours of the Hycroft mansion, led by knowledgeable volunteers and members of the University Women’s Club of Vancouver, will be available. Additionally, guests will be able to stroll through a collection of rare classic cars by the Vintage Car Club of Canada, view floral arranging demonstrations by Lila Yee, and a display by the Society for the Museum of Original Costumes, which will showcase historic fashion from the era. There will also be musical performances and a pop-up poetry artist.
