Public transit services increased for Honda Celebration of Light

Jul 24 2016, 2:03 am

Over a million people are expected to descend on the beaches and parks around English Bay for three nights on July 23, July 27, and July 30, and many will be taking public transit to get to their viewing sites.

As expected, TransLink says it will be increasing its level of service throughout the duration of these nights. There will be more bus service than usual, including extra services before and after for the 250, 250A and 257 buses. A number of routes, particularly on the downtown peninsula, will be detoured.

More trains will be deployed on SkyTrain’s Expo, Millennium, and Canada lines to near peak service levels before the event and well after. The last train on the Expo and Millennium lines will leave Waterfront Station for King George Station at 1:16 am while the final train on the Canada Line will leave Waterfront Station for Richmond-Brighouse Station at 1:15 am.

Access into the Expo and Millennium lines at Waterfront Station after 10:30 pm will only be permitted through the street entrance at the intersection of Howe and Cordova streets. For the Canada Line, both the CPR building and street entrance at the intersection of West Hastings and Granville streets will remain fully open.

For those using Granville and Burrard stations after 10:30 pm, passengers will not be allowed to travel on Expo and Millennium line trains heading towards Waterfront Station.

On all three nights, SeaBus 15-minute frequencies will be extended until midnight, followed by every 30 minutes until the last sailing at 1:22 am from Waterfront Station.

A special West Coast Express train will be offered on Saturday, July 30 only for the Walt Disney Company’s USA show. The train will leave Mission City at 7 pm and arrive at Waterfront Station at 8:15 pm. For the return trip, the same train will depart Waterfront Station at midnight and arrive at Mission City at 1:15 am.

Passengers are advised to obtain a Compass Card to avoid long lineups at Compass machines at the stations.
