Hoi Tong Chinese Seafood Restaurant in Richmond is closing in February

Legendary Richmond eatery Hoi Tong Chinese Seafood Restaurant is closing its doors at the end of the month.

The 8191 Westminster Highway restaurant has long been a favourite for locals and visitors alike thanks to Chef Leung Yiu Tong, arguably one of the best authentic Cantonese chefs in the city.

Chef Tong, now 82 years old, has decided to close Hoi Tong after a long and illustrious career.

But getting a reservation before the hot spot shutters may be tricky – as many diners will be aiming to enjoy the highly-respected chef’s legendary sweet and sour pork, bitter melon omelette, and deep-fried crab claws before it closes.

The closure marks a well-deserved break for the chef, who started his apprenticeship when he was just 11 years old.

Wildly praised by those in the culinary industry, Chef Ton has been titled “Chinese Master Chef” by the Chinese Restaurant Awards, and he has also won numerous awards in the Critics’ Choice Signature Dish category.

Hoi Tong Chinese Seafood Restaurant is officially closing to the public on February 23.
