With a wind warning in place, — and gusts of 100 km/h expected by Thursday evening — power is being knocked out in various parts of the region.
BC Hydro is reporting widespread outages across Metro Vancouver and parts of the Fraser Valley.
As of 10 am, nearly 8,000 people in the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast were without power. A total of 10,200 people were without power on Vancouver Island.
One of the biggest outages is in Langley, where power to 3,600 customers was knocked out because of downed lines.
In a Twitter message, BC Hydro said people in the region should be ready for outages throughout the day.
