Gap has announced that Athleta, one of the brand’s sub-labels, will begin a large expansion into the Canadian market starting this year.
The subdivision focuses on performance lifestyle apparel for women and girls and currently has over 200 stores located across the United States. According to a statement from the company, the brand will launch in Canada by Summer 2021.
The expansion will begin with an e-commerce offering in the summer, followed by the opening of two brick-and-mortar stores in the fall.
One of the stores will be located at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in North York, Ontario, while the other will be located at the Park Royal Shopping Centre in West Vancouver, British Columbia.

The brand says that consumers will be able to find sustainable, inclusive, and versatile offerings both in-store and online. Orders will be fulfilled by the Gap Distribution Centre in Brampton, Ontario.
“E-commerce in Canada is fast-growing, and the pandemic further accelerated the channel’s growth,” the company says.
“Additionally, Athleta experienced double-digit online growth in the US last year, and 60% of the business was generated from e-commerce.”
