"Multiple fatalities" reported after plane crash on Gabriola Island

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) has confirmed it was informed by RCMP of an “aircraft accident” on Gabriola Island on Tuesday evening.

In an email to Daily Hive, a TSB spokesperson said the incident occurred at approximately 6 pm.

The spokesperson said three investigators from the TSB’s Vancouver will be deployed to the site on Wednesday morning and are expected to arrive on scene at approximately 12:30 pm.

In a statement, the BC Coroners Service said a small plane crashed on the north west corner of the island, and police were called to the scene, where it was confirmed there were “multiple fatalities,” although the exact number was not specified.
