Comic fans both young and old, Marvel and DC, will be able to rejoice. This coming weekend marks the 17th annual Free Comic Book Day to a number of stores within Vancouver.
On Saturday, May 5, 2018, anyone will be able to take home a free book by simply walking into a store.
The event takes place at independent comic book shops all across North America, with thousands of locations around the continent participating in the celebration. Past events have seen millions of free comic books being given away every year to aspiring readers, all of them leaving the store with at least one comic.
This year, at least 48 different comics will be given out, including well-known titles like the Avengers, Captain America, Doctor Who, Pokemon, Riverdale, the Amazing Spiderman, and Star Wars, to name a few.
In Vancouver, several shops will be celebrating with free books and special events, Read below for a list of participating stores and upcoming festivities.
Tazmanian Comic Connection
Time: 11 am to 5 pm
Where: 3618 East Hastings Street, Vancouver
Hourglass Comics
Hourglass Comics will be open from 11 am to 7 pm on Saturday. Anyone who visits will receive their choice of four free comics. In addition, the store will also have thousands of comics available at $1 each!

Where: 2625 Clarke Street, Port Moody
Big Pete’s Comics and Collectibles
Big Pete’s will be holding their Free Comic Book Day Palooza from 10 am to 6 pm. In addition to free comics, the store will host several cosplayers, tons of door prizes, a costume contest and an autograph session. Max Dunbar, artist of comics like Gears of War, Micronauts, D&D, and Slash & Burn will be there throughout the entire day.

T & N Games

The Connection Games & Comics
Connection Games & Comics will be hosting their final Free Comic Book Day from 12 to 8 pm. To celebrate the occasion, 10 free comics will be given out per household. There will also be comic books for sale as low as 25 cents, marked down paperback books, and select toys and figurines for 50% off.
