Four Canucks players switch jersey numbers from what they wore last season

The Vancouver Canucks are going to look like a much different team when they hit the ice for the 2026-27 season.

Not only are several players from last year’s roster (Marcus Pettersson, Nils Hƶglander, and Evander Kane) no longer around, but several additions, including Jamie Oleksiak, Paul Cotter, and Luke Schenn, have been brought in. Those are far from the only changes, either.

Fans will quickly notice that four returning Canucks players will be wearing a different jersey number the next time they hit the ice.

Marco Rossi, who suited up for just 33 games last season, will be switching from No. 93 to No. 23, which is the same number he wore with the Minnesota Wild. Meanwhile, Jonathan Lekkermaki, who previously wore No. 23, will be switching to No. 88.

Those won’t be the only changes, either.

Zeev Buium, who was acquired from the Wild with Rossi, will be switching from No. 24 to No. 8. That number was previously worn by Conor Garland, who was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets at the trade deadline.

Last but not least is Filip Chytil, who dressed in just 12 games last season due to injury. The 26-year-old will be donning No. 77 rather than No. 72. This one is an interesting switch given that Chytil also wore No. 72 during his time with the New York Rangers.

Fans will first have the opportunity to see these new jersey numbers in the preseason, which will begin on Sept. 22 in an away game versus the Calgary Flames. As for the regular season, the Canucks will start things off on the road against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Their home opener will come two nights later in a rematch versus the Oilers.
