Iconic Vancouver music venue celebrates 15th anniversary this week

It’s a great time to be a music fan in Vancouver. Not only is there a huge list of shows coming to town this year, but one of the city’s iconic venues is celebrating a milestone anniversary.

Fortune Sound Club in Chinatown is marking its 15th anniversary on Friday, June 14, with a stacked lineup headlined by Jamaican Dancehall legend Sister Nancy.

From their on-point hip-hop, punk and indie show bookings to their weekly Monday, Friday and Saturday night parties, Fortune has always been on the cusp of the emerging music scene both locally and internationally.

“When we started Fortune Sound 15 years ago, we saw a need for a cultural space that was more than just another venue,” said Garrett ‘GMAN’ Louie, who co-founded Fortune with Rob Rizk. “We envisioned a place centered around a great sound system and vibrant cultural events.

“Reflecting on our 15-year journey, I am blown away by what our team has accomplished, the events we’ve had, the artists that have performed — it’s truly amazing. I can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for the future of Fortune Sound.”

Fortune Sound Club

Fortune has welcomed numerous global superstars to its stage over the years, including Drake,  SZA, Wu Tang Clan, Tyler the Creator, and bbno$. The venue has hosted several workshops providing youth with the skills to break into the music industry, mental health presentations and is the home of Red Bull 3Style Canadian Championships.

Fortune also has an ongoing partnership with Vancouver-based Blueprint Events, which organizes massive festivals like the upcoming FVDED in the Park.

Put on your dancing shows and head to Chinatown this Friday for a performance by Sister Nancy, beloved for her anthem “Bam Bam” as well as many other hits. Regarded as the first female dancehall DJ, Sister Nancy will also be joined by DJ Gravy, DJ Synapse, Rico Uno and Mada P in the main room.

Keeping the vibes going in the Fortune Projects Space is Mad Ting Party alongside Dj Seko, Bria Tequila, Kyle Maunahan, and ClintJav.
