Online food delivery brand Foodora has announced it will be ceasing its operations in Canada, a market it entered five years ago.
The Berlin, Germany-based company released its plans this morning, filing a notice of intention to stop operating by the end of the day on May 11, 2020.
The release stated that Foodora has not been able to “reach a level of profitability in Canada that’s sustainable enough to continue operations.”
Foodora also cited the saturation of the online food delivery industry as a reason for its departure.

“Our service has grown to ten cities across the country, and none of this would have been possible without the dedication of our employees, riders, and restaurants,” said David Albert, managing director of Foodora Canada.
“I thank them for the continued support over the last five years. Supporting them during this transition phase is our main priority.”
All Foodora’s Canadian employees and riders have received their notice today and “will continue to be paid as stipulated in their contractual agreements.”
Foodora has more than 3,000 restaurant partners in 10 cities across Canada.
