Flourist to open new bakery, mill, and cafe in Vancouver (RENDERINGS)
Flourist (formerly known as GRAIN), the Vancouver-based fully traceable grain, bean, and flour company, just dropped some big news.
The newly-rebranded artisan flour miller and farmer-direct dry goods supplier just announced it will be opening a new bakery and cafe in East Vancouver this spring.

The brand is known for operating monthly pop-ups with products made in its artisan flour mill and warehouse in South Vancouver (the city’s first and only), but today it revealed plans for a new 2,800 sq. ft. spot, located at 3433 Commercial Street, which will feature fresh flour stone-milled on site.
“The farmer-direct whole grains, seeds, and beans part of the business will continue to grow and thrive through our online and retail channels and will feature prominently in the menu at the new Flourist location,” says Flourist co-founder Shira McDermott. “We’re really excited to be able show people how we mill our fresh flours and we expect our new Austrian-made stone mill will be a big hit at the bakery.”
This means fresh bread daily along with coffee, casual food, baked goods, and a retail space focused on home baking and cooking products are in store Flourist’s future bakery and cafe customers on Commercial Street.
Flourist’s new Head Baker, Alessandra Percival, has been baking for the brand’s pop-up shops since July 2017 and is excited to work in the new brick and mortar location alongside existing Head Miller Christian Bendsen.
“Think of a bustling neighbourhood cafe and kitchen where you can eat-in or grab prepared food to go,” says Percival. “We’ll be baking sourdough bread daily exclusively using flour milled onsite, which is a first for this city.”
Fans of the brand will also soon be able to purchase its products online, including freshly milled flours.
We’ll keep you posted on an opening date for this spot as spring draws closer.
