Another fireworks event is happening in Vancouver but it'll cost you

There’s another fireworks night coming to Vancouver this summer, but the way it’s being organized is a little bit cheeky.

Do you like fireworks? Do you like Shakespeare? Then you might like Shakespeare and fireworks on the same night, with Bard on the Beach fireworks nights.

Bard Fireworks Nights take place on July 19 and July 26 at Vanier Park, and if those dates sound familiar, it’s because those are the exact dates of two of the three Honda Celebration of Light shows. Yukon (July 19) and Nova Scotia (July 26) are the two Canadian jurisdictions that will be represented.

Thanks to the proximity to the Honda show, Bard attendees will be able to experience it after showings of Much Ado About Nothing or The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again].

Tickets range between $100 and $163 for Bard Fireworks Nights, depending on where you sit. And while there are still tickets available, there aren’t many!

Bard Fireworks Nights cost more than standard tickets, but Bard is adding value in other ways for Vancouver attendees. Guests will also be treated to a dessert buffet after the show and “guaranteed, spectacular views” of the Celebration of Light. Fireworks don’t start till 10 p.m., so you’ll have to kill some time at the Bard Village.

Booze is available in the village, and as part of the event, “you can bring your own picnic, pre-order a Fireworks Picnic from Emelle’s Catering (additional charges apply), or enjoy a selection of snacks from our concession before the show or during intermission.

There will also be a DIY donut station.

If you don’t care for fireworks but enjoy the works of Shakespeare, Bard on the Beach has shows running all the way through until September.

For others, having a private and exclusive venue to watch the fireworks from might be worth the premium price. Are you one of those people? That is the question. Let us know in the comments.

The Bard on the Beach website has more information about the event.

For a closer and more curated fireworks viewing experience, organizers of the Honda Celebration of Light will also bring back two premium viewing areas at English Bay Beach — Inukshuk Point, and an expanded Concord Pacific Grandstand.
