Americans to stand up for Canada at B.C. border rally tomorrow

Jul 4 2025, 4:56 pm

Tomorrow, at Peace Arch Park, Americans will be rallying in support of Canada at the B.C. border crossing.

The international day of action is taking place at border crossings nationwide, and the one at the Peace Arch is called “Peace, Love, and a Handshake.”

According to the event page, it starts at noon and will last until 3 p.m. It sounds like Canadians are invited too. The group organizing, Elbows Up for Canada, is comprised of both American and Canadian members.

Attendees will be meeting at the Peace Arch monument, which seems like the perfect spot for a solidarity rally. The text on the monument reads, “Children of a common mother.”

Come join us up at Peace Arch Park on July 5 as PLH comes together with organizations across the northern border for a series of rallies called Elbows Up on the same day, celebrating friendship and solidarity between the U.S. and Canada,” the event page states.

This is all part of a larger mission to expand into a cross-country event.

“This is the first border-wide event and will serve as a springboard into a nationwide event, ‘Friends Across Borders’ on August 16,” event organizers said.

There is even an event taking place in London, England.

Members who comprise the group oppose U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies, his tariffs and his plans to make Canada a 51st state.

We want to show this administration that they may break our formal ties, but we will continue to cherish our personal relationships across borders. We have friends everywhere.”

Areas of the park are on both sides of the border. As the B.C. government website states, “You may be asked to provide identification and immigration information by officers of the Canada Border Services Agency or the US Customs and Border Protection.”

A complete list of all participating locations is available on the Elbows Up for Canada website.

Throughout the first half of 2025, several rallies have taken place, some at the border crossing and others right here in Vancouver. They’ve typically taken place at the U.S. Embassy, located at 1075 West Pender St. There was one that took place in Vancouver last month, called No Tyrants, which also had some Americans in attendance.
