FIFA branding coming down at BC Place but Science World keeps its look for now

The FIFA World Cup is over for Vancouver, at least in terms of matches being played.

That fact is already becoming visually evident, as crews wasted no time in getting to work on returning BC Place to its pre-FIFA look. FIFA World Cup branding is already being removed behind big fences, which still surround the 43-year-old stadium.

Work began the day after Switzerland and Colombia played in the Round of 16, which was the last match Vancouver hosted.

FIFA branding is also coming down on the pillars surrounding the stadium.

“Move out has already begun,” a PavCo spokesperson confirmed to Daily Hive. PavCo will officially take control of BC Place next week.

While many of the BC Place upgrades are permanent, like a new retail store, elevators, and hospitality spaces, the grass pitch everyone loves is not here to stay.

Instead, a brand new artificial turf field will soon be laid down.

The first post-FIFA event scheduled for BC Place is a July 25 CFL game between the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts. The Lions have had to play their first five games away from Vancouver, which included two “home” games in Kelowna.

The Vancouver Whitecaps, meanwhile, haven’t played at BC Place since April 25. They played a Canadian Championship match at Swangard Stadium on Wednesday and don’t return to BC Place until Aug. 1, against LAFC.

What about the Science World soccer ball?

What about Science World, you ask?

Turned into an eye-catching Adidas Trionda soccer ball before the World Cup, Science World will keep its current look until well after the end of the FIFA World Cup tournament.

The soccer ball is scheduled to be in place until Sept. 7.
