Temporary full closure of Expo Line at Waterfront Station for maintenance work

Jul 31 2020, 9:36 pm

There will be a temporary closure of the Expo Line at Waterfront Station to allow for critical maintenance work to be accelerated.

The planned 51-hour closure on Saturday, August 8 until the start of service on Monday, August 10 will mean passengers will be unable to access the Expo Line from the transit hub.

TransLink stated today the accelerated maintenance necessitating the closure is being performed now while ridership remains low.

Work that will be conducted on the Expo Line at the station includes power and system upgrades, power rail cleaning and rail repairs, track intrusion alarm maintenance and cleaning, guideway maintenance, detailed platform cleaning, bird prevention intstallations, lighting upgrades and repairs, and CCTV camera repairs.

Waterfront Station will remain fully open for the Canada Line and SeaBus. As the West Coast Express does not operate on weekends, this service is unaffected.

Passengers who typically use the Expo Line at Waterfront Station are asked to consider transferring between the Expo Line’s Granville Station and the Canada Line’s Vancouver City Centre Station, catching the No. 50 Waterfront Station/False Creek South bus, or walking between Waterfront Station and Granville or Burrard stations. Allow up to 15 minutes in additional commute time.

The public transit authority also temporarily closed the main entrance into the Expo Line at Waterfront Station’s CPR building to conduct an escalator replacement.
