An 18-year-old was stabbed in Yaletown on Wednesday evening while taking photos with three of his friends.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says in a statement that the teen and his friends were “confronted by a man” in Coopers’ Park on Marinaside Crescent.

The teen suffered minor physical injuries, but police say that no one was seriously harmed.

Later, just before 7 pm, officers responded to a man who was “chasing people with a knife in the area of Davie Street and Marinaside Crescent.”

“We are very lucky that no one sustained serious injuries, including our officers,” says Sergeant Aaron Roed, Media Spokesperson for the VPD. “The man resisted arrest, and several tactical resources were used to protect the public and take him into custody, where he remains.”

The suspect is a 34-year-old male with no fixed address. Police say that they have recommended charges for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, failing to comply with a release order, and obstructing a peace officer.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the VPD at 604-717-3321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
