Environment Canada issues heavy rain, wind warning for Metro Vancouver

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of Metro Vancouver.

According to the weather agency, a “pair of disturbances” are approaching the south coast of BC and will bring significant amounts of wind and rain, beginning on Thursday.

The weather statement is in effect for the following areas:

  • Metro Vancouver – northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
  • North Shore – including West Vancouver and North Vancouver

“Rain is forecast to develop near midday on Thursday for many locations and increase in intensity that evening,” said the agency.

“Periods of rain will likely continue through Friday before coming to an end early Saturday morning.”

Rainfall totals of 30 to 50 mm are expected by Friday morning with additional amounts of 30 to 50 mm possible through Friday evening.

Winds are expected to pick up through the afternoon on Thursday. Coastal areas will be hit with gusts between 40 to 60 km/h at times.
