Soon-to-open Vancouver matcha bar wants to help you find the perfect tea

Vancouver is home to plenty of top-notch matcha destinations — whether you’re looking for classic tea offerings or one of the more playful creations dominating TikTok. But not all matcha is created equally. So, how do you find the perfect matcha for you? Well, Vancouver’s latest matcha bar is hoping to fix that.

You may recognize the name Emeri from its pop-ups taking place across Vancouver over the past year. Here, co-founders Josephine Au and Justin Ng offered patrons the opportunity to find the perfect tasting matcha.

“Emeri started as a passion project — just the two of us searching for the best matcha we could find. On weekends, we’d line up samples across the kitchen table, run blind taste tests, compare notes, and share our favourites with friends, family, and a growing community,” shared Emeri on its website.

“Along the way, we realized something obvious and yet, surprisingly overlooked: everyone’s taste buds are different. What’s a perfect cup of matcha for one person might not be for another, and that’s exactly what makes the journey so fascinating.”

From there, the duo decided to start focusing on curating a collection of matcha that celebrates those differences, instead of focusing on just one.

Fast forward to today, and the team is looking to bring that same dedication to finding folks’ favourite matcha to its first brick-and-mortar location, coming to Mount Pleasant in the former home of Goldilocks Bake Shop.

“We’ve been looking non-stop for a home for Emeri. After countless tours, long nights and planning, we’ve finally secured a space. We are far from ready, but we promise to keep our heads down and work as hard as we can to make sure that you will be able to come and enjoy your matcha with us soon,” wrote the matcha bar on Instagram.

“None of this would have been possible without your support. There were many times we contemplated giving up, but what keeps us going on the hard days is imagining you all walking through those doors and leaving with the biggest smile after finding your matcha,” it added.

On its website, it promises to offer a weekly rotating menu featuring hand-whisked drinks made with five grams of tea powder and complimentary oat and soy milk.

An opening date for Emeri Matcha Bar has yet to be announced, but it plans to open sometime this summer. Be sure to check back here for more details soon.
