Metro Vancouver Indian restaurant to close after nearly a decade
We’ve seen a lot of losses in the Metro Vancouver restaurant industry this year, and we unfortunately have received word of another closure: Ember Indian Kitchen.
“After many wonderful years serving the community, we are writing to share the bittersweet news that Ember Indian Kitchen will be closing its doors,” wrote the restaurant.
Ember — which is located in Steveston, Richmond — is best known for its menu, which blends the culinary traditions of India and East Africa. Examples include its Mishkaki (Indian-African style BBQ sirloin beef or lamb steak bites marinated in a blend of garlic, ginger, mild spices and grilled) and Alaskan Cod Biryani (cod fish with a variation of curried masala, infused with aromatic spices, and layered with saffron basmati rice).
The restaurant went on to add that the reason for the closure was that owners Farida and Amin Sunderji have decided to retire and embark on a new chapter in their lives.
“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support, loyalty, and friendship over the years. It has been an honour and a privilege to share our passion for Indian cuisine with you and to be a part of your lives, whether through family dinners, celebrations, or casual meals,” said the restaurant.
Ember’s final day of service will be Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025.

“As we prepare to say goodbye, we reflect on the countless memories and connections we have made with each of you. Your encouragement and patronage have meant the world to us, and we will cherish these moments forever. Thank you for being a part of our journey. We hope that the flavours and experiences you’ve enjoyed at Ember Indian Kitchen will remain fond memories,” concluded the restaurant.
Many fans of Ember took to the comments of the closure announcement to share how much they would miss the restaurant.

“We’ve been so lucky to get to know the story of Ember and its amazing food and most of all the family. You will be missed,” added another.
“So sad for our community on learning this. Your food, your service. Your ambiance was a delightful addition to our little corner of Steveston. Wishing you well going forward,” shared a third.
