Much-loved Vancouver brunch spot to shut its doors

It’s becoming a common narrative for restaurants: redevelopment is pushing them out of their long-time homes.

It’s happened with many beloved eateries in Vancouver, but most recently we saw the closures of Moderne Burger, Benny’s Cafe, and Kinome due to building demolition at their West Broadway spots.

Now, Vancouver’s popular breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot, The Elbow Room Cafe, (known to serve their food with a hefty helping of sass) is going to be shuttering to make room for rental units.

Located at 560 Davie Street, the restaurant would be one of a handful of business closing to make way for approximately 146 units of new affordable rental housing in a mixed-use development.

This location was part of 900 new affordable rental units planned at city-owned sites, which was first announced last year. The units were officially approved and updated last week.

Staff told Daily Hive that while there isn’t an exact date set, it looks likely it will be an October closing, as that’s when the lease is up.

We’ve reached out to management for more information.
