The Vancouver Police have identified and arrested a suspect in an East Vancouver fire that allegedly caused more than $100,000 in damages.
Jason Acoose of Vancouver was found near Commercial Drive and East 12th Avenue, less than two days after police asked for the public’s help.
The 46-year-old is described as an Aboriginal male, approximately 5’10” with a slim build and tattoos on the left side of his neck.
Video footage was released of a suspect walking down Nanaimo Street and putting his hand into a hedge behind a residence.
As soon as the suspect walks away, the hedge is swallowed in flames.
Acoose remains in custody and the Crown Counsel has approved two charges of “arson to property” against him.
Arson investigators of the VPD are crediting the public for “tips which helped lead to the arrest.”
