East Asian woman allegedly attacked while walking in South Vancouver

One man has been arrested and police are investigating after an East Asian woman was allegedly followed and assaulted in South Vancouver on Tuesday evening.

According to VPD, the woman was walking alone when she noticed a man up ahead who was “standing and staring at her.”

Feeling frightened, the woman turned around and quickly began to walk the other way.

The man followed the woman and allegedly grabbed her by the hair, pulled her backwards, then ran away.

Police said a passing motorist saw the incident, pulled over, got out of his car and chased the suspect, holding him until police arrived.

The man was arrested for assault and taken to jail.

The VPD said its hate crimes unit is reviewing the case.
