East 1st Avenue will fully reopen to commuters next week

Vancouver commuters will finally be able to drive on East 1st Avenue.

The thoroughfare has been closed to drivers since late May due to the Fortis BC’s project to replace a natural gas line in Vancouver, Burnaby and Coquitlam.

The 20-km-long construction project runs through the three municipalities and will replace a 20-inch diameter gas line with a new 30-inch line.

Burnaby – Graveley St from Ingleton Ave to Gilmore Rd July 31 – mid September 2018 Local traffic only
Burnaby – Lougheed Hwy from Madison Ave to Delta Ave August 9 – mid October 2018 Partial (reduced to one lane each direction)

The East 1st stretch from Nanaimo Street to Rupert Street is set to reopen on Sunday, August 26.

The Clark Drive to Nanaimo Street section will fully reopen on Sunday, August 31.
