Driver turns himself in after fatal hit-and-run in Surrey

A motorcyclist is dead and the driver of the other vehicle is in custody after a hit-and-run in Surrey over the weekend.

According to Surrey RCMP, the incident took place at approximately 9:30 pm on Friday, when officers responded to “several” 911 calls for a motorcycle that had been struck by a pickup truck on King George Boulevard near 73rd Avenue.

Police said the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike, and the pickup truck fled the scene.

The motorcyclist, – a 53-year-old man from Surrey – succumbed to his injuries as a result of the incident.

Then, on Saturday, around 9 am, the suspected driver of the pick-up truck attended the Surrey RCMP detachment and turned himself into police.

The investigation remains ongoing and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, observed a white pickup truck in the area, or has dash-cam video of the incident, to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
