First downtown Vancouver casualties of the Starbucks closures revealed
Last week, we learned that Starbucks was planning to close a plethora of locations across Canada and the U.S., and now we know of at least three of the casualties in the downtown Vancouver area.
One is just a few stores down from the Nesters Market by Seymour and Nelson at 960 Seymour St.
In Yaletown, right by the water and Urban Fare, the location at 125 Davie St. near Marinaside Crescent is also listed as permanently closed.
And finally, the location right on the corner of the block across from the also-closed Brandi’s Show Lounge at 891 Dunsmuir St. near Hornby Street is also closed.
Starbucks is planning to close 250 locations, which comes as a result of around US$300 million in restructuring changes. This only represents around one per cent of the popular coffee chain’s roughly 18,000 locations across the continent.
A sign posted on the door at the Seymour location reads, “This week, we made the very difficult decision to close this Starbucks location.”
“We know this may be hard to hear — because this isn’t just any store. It’s your coffee house, a place woven into your daily rhythm, where memories were made, and meaningful connections with our partners grew.”
The notice from Starbucks offers reassurance to anyone worried about their favourite barista, saying, “Please know that we’re working closely to support our partners through this transition.”
The notice ends with a QR code to scan for other locations to visit.

While Starbucks is closing many locations, it also opened a couple over the past year or so, including one at Parq Vancouver, which opened this spring, and one that opened last spring at Canada Place.
Starbucks Canada also has some more uplifting plans for several locations around Metro Vancouver.
Last week, we learned that Starbucks was going to do major “coffeehouse uplifts” for three Metro Vancouver locations.
Those locations include the Starbucks at Scott and 72nd in Surrey, the Starbucks at Royal Square in New West, and the Starbucks at Westgate Centre in Maple Ridge.
These coffeehouse uplifts are currently underway and are expected to continue through 2027.
