All Disney stores in Canada will be closing in the near future.
According to a report from industry publication Retail Insider, “multiple sources” have confirmed that 18 stores will be shuttered across the country, with two having already closed last month.
In its report, Retail Insider writes the move comes as Disney “re-evaluates its operations amid a challenging time for retail and landlords in North America as the pandemic increasingly shifts consumer shopping patterns to online channels.”
Reached for comment about the closures, a spokesperson from Disney did not offer any specifics but shared a statement with Daily Hive which said in part that “over the next year Disney will focus on providing a more seamless, personalized and franchise-focused ecommerce experience through its shopDisney platform which will be complemented by greater integration with Disney Parks apps and social media platforms.”

In total, the company said it plans to close a total of 60 stores throughout North America.
