It’s official, Netflix has chosen Toronto as its new Canadian home, the streaming giant announced on Tuesday.

Netflix chose between Vancouver and Toronto, ultimately deciding the Ontario city was the right place to open an office. It also announced an expansion to its commitment to work with Canadian talent.

Toronto Mayor John Tory said in a press release that this kind of news gives the city “hope” during difficult times such as these.

“We have been working hard to make sure Netflix’s new Canadian office would be in Toronto,” said Tory.

“We put together a bid book in days to make the case for Netflix to locate here and engage with our creative industry. Our pitch was clear – Toronto is a film friendly city which welcomes and celebrates the screen industry, the quality and diversity of our talent pool is second to none, and we have a robust and ever-expanding production and post-production industry.”

According to the release, the city was already hosting one of the streaming platform’s two Canadian Production Hubs, and now with the new office in Toronto, Netflix plans on bringing more Canadian stories to the forefront.

“As we grow our business and presence all across Canada, we’re excited that Toronto will be our first local office,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix.

“We’re looking forward to opening our doors and building on the great work we’ve started with our creative partners to bring more Canadian artists and stories to the world.”

As to when the office will open, that has yet to be confirmed.
