Demonstrators in Vancouver block traffic at Hastings and Clark

A small demonstration in Vancouver Monday evening blocked the intersection of Hastings Street and Clark Drive.

Vehicle traffic could not get through, according to the Vancouver Police Department, who expected the intersection to remain closed through the night.

#VanTraffic: the intersection at Hastings St and Clarke Dr is expected to remain closed this evening and possibly throughout the night, due to a demonstration. Please avoid the area.

According to posts by some of the demonstrators on social media, the blockade began as a march down Commercial Drive on Monday afternoon. The protesters said on social media that they’re supporting Indigenous land defenders.

They kept a small fire burning, and posted call outs on Instagram asking for more people to join them and for donations of firewood.
