BC's movie theatres temporarily close after health order confusion
BC’s movie theatres scrambled to shut down Monday afternoon following health officials’ latest health update saying they’re not supposed to be open.
On Thursday, the province issued new health orders forbidding gatherings and cancelling all community events. Live performances had to cancel their shows, but movie theatres across the province continued to operate over the weekend.

On Monday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry clarified that the order cancelling events encompasses movie theatres.
“It was quite clear in my mind where the events issue was,” she said. “Movie theatres do fit into that.”
Cineplex spokesperson Sarah Van Lange told Daily Hive via email Monday afternoon that their operations team is “in the process of temporarily closing our network across the province.”
