It sounds like the Vancouver Canucks will have at least one big contract announcement this week.
Thatcher Demko, who is eligible to sign a contract extension with the team on July 1, is reportedly “closing in” on a new deal. This is according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, and confirmed by TSN’s Darren Dreger.
“It will get done,” Dreger said, adding that the Canucks and Demko have agreed on term.
It will get done. Sounds like they’ve agreed on term, but still some work being done on $ and structure. 👇 https://t.co/i8J0A53v6V

Term was widely seen as a potential point of contention in negotiations, given Demko’s recent injury troubles. The San Diego native turns 30 in December, making a long-term extension risky.
But it’s also risky to let Demko walk.
When healthy, Demko is one of the best goaltenders in the NHL. The Canucks netminder was a Vezina Trophy finalist one year ago, after all.
Injuries limited Demko to just 23 games last season and were a big reason for subpar numbers, including a career-low .889 save percentage.
How involved will Canucks be in free-agent frenzy?
Demko isn’t the only player expected to sign a contract extension soon. Conor Garland, who, like Demko, also has one year left on his contract, is reportedly close to a new deal too.
But what about free agents?
The Canucks haven’t been linked to many big-name UFAs, and if we’re being honest, there aren’t many big-name free agents available this year. They have been linked to Mikael Granlund recently in an article written by Thomas Drance and Rick Dhaliwal in The Athletic, though.
Vancouver has three players set to become UFAs on Canada Day: Brock Boeser, Pius Suter, and Noah Juulsen. Boeser and Juulsen are reportedly headed to free agency, while there is some hope with Suter.
