Daiya Foods will soon have a new production hub and corporate headquarters for its growing business.

The company is currently in the process of retrofitting a 1970-built warehouse property at 3100 Production Way — just north of SkyTrain’s Production Way-University Station — into its new production facility for its dairy-free, plant-based foods.

This new location in Burnaby is over 400,000 sq. ft. in size, providing the company with quadruple the production capacity compared to its existing 65,000-sq-ft facility in East Vancouver. According to the company, this is one of the largest food production facilities of its kind in BC.

Daiya Foods’ growth is being propelled by the increased global demand for plant-based foods. There will also be a food innovation centre within the new facility.

When operational in the latter half of 2020, it will employ 300 people, with potential growth for an additional 100 positions over the coming years.

“Daiya Foods is a Canadian success story. The creation of our new production facility represents an exciting milestone for our business and will allow Daiya to meet the growing demand for our premium plant-based foods,” said Daiya Foods CEO Michael Watt in a statement.

“With this new facility, we are reinforcing our commitment to investing in BC while leading a positive and innovative plant-based movement to benefit people and the planet.”

The company was founded in 2008, and it now has products in tens of thousands of stores across Canada, USA, Mexico, UK, Australia, and Hong Kong.
