A cyclist has died over the weekend after a vehicle hit-and-run in Burnaby.

The incident took place on Saturday, June 29 at approximately 1:30 pm.

The Burnaby RCMP received a call from BC Emergency Health Services, reporting a collision between a cyclist and a motor vehicle around the 1500-block of Gaglardi way.

Burnaby RCMP says in an email that the cyclist, who was 53-years-old, has passed away due to their injuries.

The alleged vehicle, a black Jeep Cherokee SUV, fled the scene of the collision.

They were found a short time later on University High Street and Tower Road where the driver was arrested.

Although it’s early in the investigation, RCMP believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.

No charges have been laid yet, however, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
