Cultus Lake Waterpark reopening inches closer over a month after tragic incident | Daily Hive

Cultus Lake Waterpark is getting closer to reopening for the busy summer season, several weeks after a tragic incident sent a dozen children to the hospital.

B.C.’s biggest water park recently made the announcement on its website, stating that it was preparing for a phased reopening.

In an update posted online, park staff stated that the work is taking place after a Technical Safety BC (TSBC) investigative team released the affected area to them about two weeks following the incident on June 15.

“While Technical Safety BC’s full investigation has not yet been released, they have advised that several variables are suspected to have contributed to the incident, ” said the water park in its update dated July 23, 2026.

“These findings have been provided to us through non-compliance certificates and a comprehensive review of our entire facility, ensuring similar conditions are not present elsewhere in the park.”

No exact date for the reopening has been revealed, though Cultus Lake Waterpark added that it is conducting a site-wide review of all electrical work and components.

Assessments of other infrastructure in the park, including natural gas and chemical systems, equipment, and operating procedures, are also being completed.

“To complete this work thoroughly and efficiently, we are focusing on specific areas of the park and completing all required reviews and corrections before reopening those areas to guests. Any area that reopens will do so only after receiving the necessary approvals from the applicable authorities, Technical Safety BC, WorkSafeBC, and Fraser Health,” said the Fraser Valley attraction.

Cultus Lake Waterpark’s closure stems from an incident in June where multiple people suffered electrical burn injuries.

TSBC, an independent organization that oversees the safe installation and operation of equipment and systems across the province, told Daily Hive that safety officers were conducting a thorough assessment of the regulated electrical and amusement device equipment involved in the incident.

“Preliminary findings have identified electrical non-compliances at the site,” said TSBC in a previous statement to Daily Hive. “In order for the park to reopen, we will need to conduct further investigation, and the park owner will need to correct all hazards. As a result, the waterpark remains closed with no timeline for reopening.

“As B.C.’s technical safety regulator, we take our responsibility to the public incredibly seriously. Like all British Columbians, we are thinking of the families impacted by this incident.”

Cultus Lake Waterpark, located at 4150 Columbia Valley Highway, was hosting school groups when the incident occurred.

“This incident occurred at the bottom of our Zero to 60 waterslide attraction, past the end of the slide,” Cultus Lake Waterpark posted on social media. “This incident was tragic, and we are deeply upset by what these children experienced at our park.”

According to BC Emergency Health Services, two of the injured were transported to the hospital by air ambulance, and the other 10 were transported by ground ambulance.

The waterpark also added in its most recent update that, as part of a phased reopening, hot tubs will remain temporarily closed as “returning our waterslide attractions to service first” is the priority.
