Editor’s Note: Chilliwack RCMP previously announced the injured to include 10 youth and two adults. They have since updated to say that there are 12 youths injured with no adults harmed at Cultus Lake Waterpark.

A scary incident at Cultus Lake Waterpark today sent a dozen people to the hospital and prompted an investigation to be launched by WorkSafeBC.

Chilliwack Cpl. Carmen Kiener told Daily Hive that officers responded to a report of multiple people suffering injuries at a water park in Cultus Lake at 11:20 a.m. on Monday, June 15.

“All injured parties are reported to be stable with serious injuries and are being transported to hospital for further medical treatment,” said Kiener in a statement. “There were 12 youths taken to hospital.”

Cultus Lake Waterpark, located at 4150 Columbia Valley Highway, is closed to the public today. However, the popular attraction was open to school groups today when the incident occurred.

BC Emergency Health Services also confirmed that they received a call at 11:17 a.m. on Monday morning about an incident in the 4100 block of Columbia Valley Road in Chilliwack.

“Multiple resources, including several ambulances with primary care paramedics, an ambulance and response unit with advanced care paramedics, two air ambulances with critical care paramedics, a link and referral unit, a paramedic supervisor and an area manager, responded,” said BCEHS paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites.

Two of the injured were transported to the hospital by air ambulance, and the other 10 were transported by ground ambulance.

According to Ken Hoff, Assistant Director, Communications & Community Relations for the Coquitlam School District, a number of students from School District 43’s Minnekhada Middle School in Port Coquitlam visited Cultus Lake Waterpark today.

“Eleven students are being assessed for unspecified injuries, and all are in stable condition. We have no information on the nature of the injuries or the cause at this time, as this is currently being investigated by the RCMP,” shared Hoff in a statement.

Traffic into the Cultus Lake area was temporarily closed as emergency services attended, but has since reopened.

Police remain on scene as the investigation unfolds, and no cause of the injuries has yet been announced.

Cpl. Carmen Kiener also added that Worksafe BC is taking charge of the investigation, and Cultus Lake Waterpark has not been shut down at this time.
