Fraser Health declared two new COVID-19 outbreaks Friday evening at a hospital and a holding centre for people in custody awaiting their trial.

Twenty inmates at the North Fraser Pretrial Services Centre have tested positive so far.

“We are actively following up with any individuals who had contact with the individuals in custody at this location who have tested positive for COVID-19,” Fraser Health said.

The health authority also declared an outbreak at Royal Columbian Hospital after seeing evidence of transmission in a surgical unit.

The outbreak is currently only one infection, and the unit is closed to admissions. The hospital’s emergency department and other wards remain open.

It asked anybody in the Fraser Health region who feels ill to immediately seek a COVID-19 test.
