Coronavirus outbreak declared at Abbotsford blueberry-packing company

Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a blueberry-packing company in Abbotsford.

According to Fraser Health, 15 staff at Fraser Valley Packers Inc., have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Monday.

The health authority is screening all employees at the facility, and case and contact management is underway.

Currently, Fraser Valley Packers is operating at reduced capacity. Fraser Health said it became aware of the potential outbreak after an employee received a positive lab test on Thursday, July 23.

Dr. Bonnie Henry also addressed the outbreak during Monday’s COVID-19 press conference.

“Fraser Health is working with the plant and doing ongoing testing of the workers at the plant and doing an investigation to ensure that all of the safety precautions that need to be are in place,” she said.
