Coronavirus cases discovered at two more Vancouver schools

Vancouver Coastal Health reported new coronavirus cases at two more Vancouver elementary schools Wednesday.

The first is John Henderson Elementary in southeast Vancouver, where someone showed up to school while infected on October 13.

The second, École Ann-Hébert Elementary School, is a French language institution in Killarny. Its exposures were on October 15 and 16.

Contact tracers will notify close contacts individually, and anyone who doesn’t hear from them directly can still come to school as normal.

The new school exposures come on the same day that BC health officials declared the province first school coronavirus outbreak in Kelowna.

But despite frequent notifications of coronavirus exposures in school, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has said schools aren’t a major driver of new infections.

Cases showing up in schools is to be expected because the virus is circulating in the community, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.
