BC health officials announce 514 new COVID-19 cases

British Columbia health officials announced 514 new test-positive COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the province to 66,779.

During a press conference on Friday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said broken down by health region, this equates to 134 new cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 223 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 29 new cases in the Island Health region, 71 new cases in the Interior Health region, and 57 new cases in the Northern Health region.

There have also been five more deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths due to the virus in BC to 1,189.

There are currently 4,557 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 7,000 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

Currently, 292 individuals are hospitalized with COVID-19, 74 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Henry said that 59,551 individuals who tested positive have now recovered.
