We’ve been patiently waiting for Gastown’s newest hot spot to open its doors – and the day is almost here.

Coquille Fine Seafood is set to serve its first official customers on Tuesday, February 13 around 11 am, and we can’t wait.

It’s the latest project from L’Abattoir Chefs Lee Cooper and Jack Chen, and partner Nin Rai, and you can see that the branding is on point just like at the Pacific Northwest restaurant – not surprising considering the brand identity and signage for both restaurants were designed by the same company, Glasfurd & Walker, and same goes the interior design, which was SITU.

Located at 181 Carrall Street (the former Secret Location tasting room), we got a glimpse at the uber-chic, 100-seat interior in advance of opening day.

Inside, there are some serious The Birth of Venus vibes going on with the oversized shell-shaped booths – fitting considering “Coquille” is the French word for “shell”.

The nautically-themed large dining room, lounge, and bar are all housed within the 4,100 square foot space. Meanwhile, the decor features a pastel palette and scale-patterned walls, floors, and motifs that nod to the seafood-centric menu in a whimsical way.

Come summer, this spot will also boast a patio where you can devour some fresh-caught fare along with killer cocktails.

The Gastown restaurant plans to change the way you eat fish, more specifically, they want you to come in and eat when you feel like it, not just for a special occasion.

Think happy hour, lunches, and casual suppers.

The large menu deals in a bounty of fresh-caught seafood and shellfish and currently offers eight kinds of oysters, spicy marinated octopus, and stuffies (clams stuffed with peppers and bacon), along with a stunning selection of fish, shellfish, and meats like lobster, Arctic Char, steak, and mussels to name a few.

There are also seafood platters, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and an awesome selection of sides like grilled rapini and rice pilaf up for order.

With a stellar location (right in front of Maple Tree Square) and an exciting fresh concept – we can safely say we’ll be looking forward to dining ASAP and often once doors open.
