A 4-year-old child was injured on Saturday after falling from a third-storey window, according to Surrey RCMP.

In a release, police say the incident occurred in the 10100 block of 153 Street at approximately 3:30 pm.

Authorities determined the child had been climbing on furniture in the residence and slipped off, falling against a screen that gave way. The child landed on a grassy area in front of the residence.

An ambulance transported the child to the hospital, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries, including a fracture.

“The child is believed to make a full recovery,” said Surrey RCMP, adding that parents should ensure “windows and screens are fully secured” in their homes.

“Children when active, especially at a young age, do not understand the potential dangers that doors, and windows, above the ground can be extremely dangerous, and as they are curious can easily fall through when the door and / or window are not properly secured,” said police.
