The skies over English Bay lit up with energy and nostalgia on Wednesday night as Team Quebec took the stage for the second night of the 2025 Honda Celebration of Light fireworks competition, delivering a high-octane fireworks show themed “Champions.”

True to its name, the soundtrack was a pulse-pounding tribute to sports anthems and heroic moments, mixing stadium classics, motivational movie scores, and pop culture staples.

The show — designed by Montreal area-based pyrotechnics company Royal Pyrotechnie — blended explosive visuals with some of the most recognizable pump-up songs in history, curated to mirror the soundtrack of locker rooms, goal celebrations, and championship glory.

Kicking off with Aerosmith’s “Dream On” and Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” the show quickly hit full throttle with Blur’s “Song 2” and Bill Conti’s iconic “Gonna Fly Now” from Rocky. That was followed by Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” and House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” escalating the energy with every beat.

Midway through, the show hit emotional highs with Tina Turner’s “The Best” and Foo Fighters’ “My Hero,” before veering into full party mode with DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win,” 2 Unlimited’s “Get Ready For This,” and Zombie Nation’s “Kernkraft 400” — all staples of stadium playlists around the world.

From there, the soundtrack accelerated with a frenetic mix of hype tracks, including Eminem’s “My Name Is,” Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” Tag Team’s “Whoomp! (There It Is),” and the viral sports anthem “Narco” by Blasterjaxx & Timmy Trumpet. Darude’s “Sandstorm” and a vintage rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” gave fans a brief tonal twist before launching into the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.”

Toward the finale, Coldplay’s emotionally charged “Fix You” offered a surprise reflective moment, before the crowd was lifted back to their feet by K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag,” Macklemore’s “Can’t Hold Us,” and the fitting closer, “The Final Countdown” by Europe.

This year marks the first all-Canadian competition in the Honda Celebration of Light’s 33-year history. With the teams representing Yukon and Quebec now having performed, the finale this Saturday, July 26, will see Team Nova Scotia close out the event with its own themed show.

A winner will then be selected by a panel of judges based on artistry, soundtrack, and synchronization.
