Vancouver donut shop announces closure after 14 years with emotional message

One of Vancouver’s biggest players in the donut game is saying goodbye. Cartems Donuts has announced it will be closing its doors next month.

The brand shared the news on its social channels and website with an emotional note thanking all its supporters for over a decade of delicious operations.

Widely known as one of the best donut makers in town, Cartems serves up tasty takes on classic flavours and carved out a space of its own with unique offerings like the London Fog, Honey Parmesan, and Smoked Maple Walnut donuts.

Most of the brand’s menu was plant-based, making Cartems a no-brainer when picking up a signature red box of treats for potlucks, office parties, birthdays, celebrations, and more.

Over the years, Cartems dealt with the typical challenges the food and beverage industry posed. It closed its shops in Kitsilano and on W Pender Street in 2021 and 2023, respectively. The latter was due to the imminent demolition of its building.

At the time of its closure announcement, Cartems operates one brick-and-mortar shop in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant at 2190 Main Street and a grand kitchen in Coquitlam at 91 Golden Drive.

The donut maker also provides goodies for the cases at all five Matchstick Cafe locations around town.
