Daniel Sprong didn’t last 10 games with the Vancouver Canucks, who have traded him to the Seattle Kraken.
Vancouver is receiving “future considerations” in return.

A free agent signing with a lot of promise, Sprong started the season on the second line alongside Elias Pettersson. The signing looked like a stroke of genius when he ripped home a goal in his first game.
But Sprong quickly found himself in Rick Tocchet’s doghouse.
Sprong’s defensive play was atrocious. The 27-year-old made two gaffes in his first two games, each leading to goals against. By the third game of the season, Tocchet made him a healthy scratch.
When he returned to the lineup two games later, Sprong did so on the fourth line. He concludes his Canucks tenure with three points (1-2-3) in nine games.
âWe would like to thank Daniel for his time here in Vancouver,â Canucks GM Patrik Allvin said in a press release. âWith his help our team has started the year in a positive way, and we wish him the best in Seattle.â
This is Sprong’s second tour of duty with the Kraken, a place where he had a career-best season, scoring 46 points (21-25-46) in 66 games in 2022-23.
It will be interesting to see who fills Sprong’s spot in Vancouver. Arshdeep Bains, who was recently sent back to the Abbotsford Canucks, could earn another call-up. So could Jonathan Lekkerimaki, who has seven points in seven AHL games, including five goals.
Then there’s Dakota Joshua, who is expected back soon. Joshua missed the last three Canucks practices, though, so his status is unclear.
What’s also unclear is how long the Canucks will be without Brock Boeser, who left Thursday’s game with a head injury. Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot, who delivered an illegal check to Boeser’s head, was suspended three games by the NHL today.
The Canucks begin a six-game homestand on Saturday, beginning with a playoff rematch against the Edmonton Oilers.
