Michael Bublé chirps reporter and explains his Vancouver Canucks take

Michael Bublé’s passion for the Vancouver Canucks may be unparalleled.

The Burnaby singer drew the ire of some Canucks fans earlier this week after arguing with commenters on social media.

The five-time Grammy winner got into it with Canucks fans, as negative responses to a trade rumour post prompted him to say “what a sh*t fanbase we are.”

He then gave his optimistic take on the team’s direction, while telling another fan to move to Calgary.

That led to him appearing on Donnie and Dhali.

“[What I said] comes from a place of frustration,” Bublé told hosts Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal, before doubling down on his comments on social media. “I’m not backtracking. Zero Backtracking.”

He has love for Canucks fans, though.

“You have to be [an amazing fan base] to put up with this crap for this many years and still sell out those arenas every day and watch the team and not become apathetic, okay?”

“But, we’re also like a dog that’s been beaten. We’ve been beaten. And so we just keep waiting for the next bad thing.”

“I do not speak for Canucks fans, I am a Canucks fan,” he said. “I have been a punter, a sufferer, a guy who has lived and breathed this team.”

Media chirps

While Bublé bled positivity and passion for his hockey team, he wasn’t quite as glowing when talking about the media.

He was especially unflattering in his comments about one specific NHL reporter.

“I haven’t said his name before, but I’m just going to say: Frank Seravalli.”

“Frank is probably a really good guy. I don’t know Frank well, but if Frank Servalli is a Canucks insider, then the 40-year-old virgin was a porn star.”

Bublé didn’t specify what he didn’t like about Seravalli’s reporting. Ironically, the NHL insider had a refreshingly positive scoop about Quinn Hughes’ future in Vancouver.

The singer also criticized Canucks media in Vancouver.

“There’s a lot of guys… they want us to lose. It’s better for them, and they don’t even know what they’re talking about. They just sell the garbage to us because we’ve been so beaten.”

Belief in Canucks management

Although the Canadian singer and songwriter is acutely aware of how much the Canucks’ fan base has been through, he was still very complimentary of Jim Rutherford.

“Because I’m friends with other GMs around the league, they feel [Jim Rutherford] is, if not the best, one of the best executives that there’s ever been.”

“This is not a stupid man. This is a really smart man.”

“I don’t want to say he’s impatient, but he does what he has to do and plays the cards that he’s dealt.

Bublé also addressed whether or not he believes the team should rebuild.

“I’m not a tear-down rebuild guy, but… keep some of the great tools you have,” he said.

In particular, Bublé seems high on the Canucks’ crop of young defencemen, along with goalie prospect Alexei Medvedev.

“Don’t let the negative garbage in”

Bublé may be more optimistic than a portion of the fan base, but he did want to spread his positivity across Canucks Nation.

“Canucks fans, I love you, and I got you. Whenever I can come and try to speak what I think is the truth, I’m going to do that.”

“If I feel it, I will say it. But from my heart, I know it sucks. I know it’s tough. But don’t let that negative garbage in. Don’t let them use you and get you all riled up. We’re going to be okay. I really believe we have a really good management team. I really do.”

“I do see light at the end of the tunnel.”
