Sven Baertschi is rejoining the Canucks today

Sven Baertschi got the call and is returning to the NHL.

Baertschi will join the team in Anaheim today, though it remains to be seen if he will play because of a travel delay, according to TSN 1040’s Rick Dhaliwal.

There’s room on the Canucks’ roster after Micheal Ferland left Wednesday’s game not long after a first-period fight with LA Kings winger Kyle Clifford. GM Jim Benning announced today that Ferland has been placed on injured reserve.

Dhaliwal also reports that Ferland has flown back to Vancouver.

*Update: Ferland is in concussion protocol.

Baertschi was a surprise cut in training camp. Since being demoted, the 27-year-old Swiss winger has put up 10 points in seven AHL games, helping the Utica Comets to a perfect 8-0 record.

Also waiting his turn to return to the lineup is Adam Gaudette, who hasn’t seen NHL action since October 12. Gaudette was briefly sent to Utica but was recalled following an injury to Tyler Motte.

Other players who have recently made the journey between Vancouver and Utica include Oscar Fantenberg, who has yet to make his Canucks debut and was sent to the AHL on a conditioning stint, as well as Ashton Sautner, who was recalled.
