We love Canada.
We also love The Tragically Hip.
So when the two are combined, it’s a no-brainer that our love is going up to level x2. And thanks to Twitter, that’s exactly what’s happening right now. Users have started sharing their favourite photos of Canada – often accompanied by some Hip lyrics – under the hashtag #GordDowniesCanada.
- 33 photos of how Canadians watched The Tragically Hip's last ever concert
- Every single Tragically Hip album is now charting in Canada
- Canada ranked as the 2nd best country in the world
It appears the hashtag was first started back on August 16 with a single post from Twitter user Merlin at @, whose description simply reads:
Hey Canada have an idea Post a photo of any Place in Canada add the hashtag
#GordDowniesCanada this is my gift to Gord
After a couple of weeks of lingering in the oblivion of the Twitterverse, the hashtag finally started to pick up steam on August 29 as more and more people began to share photos of our beautiful country and their experiences in it. Currently, you’ll find pics from Tofino, BC to Bonne Bay, Newfoundland – and seemingly everywhere in between.
For the past 12 hours it has been one of the top trending hashtags in Canada. And, at the time of this publication, 3-5 new posts are appearing under
#GordDowniesCanada every single minute.
It’s a beautiful way to see the country. It’s a beautiful tribute. And it’s a beautiful reminder of how lucky we all are to live in this country.
Thank you Gord. And thanks to everyone who keeps showing us their Canada.
