Vancouver Canadians have bad news for fans hoping to see fireworks this week
It’s been a tradition at Nat Bailey Stadium throughout the 21st century.
But this month, fireworks night is a no-go at the Nat.
The Vancouver Canadians announced that they are cancelling their upcoming fireworks night, which was scheduled for Thursday, Aug, 27.
This is the second time this month the Canadians have cancelled their popular fireworks promotion, having previously revoked plans to host one on Aug. 13.
The team explained in a social media post that fireworks night would be cancelled altogether this season due to the ongoing state of emergency in British Columbia.
Wildfires continue to burn throughout the province. While recent rainfall mitigated some of the recent destruction, 65 new wildfires popped up due to the weekend’s lightning storm.

“The resources required to safely put on the show remain needed elsewhere as communities across the province continue to be impacted by wildfires,” the Canadians wrote.
This was the last scheduled fireworks night of the season.
Although fireworks night is off for the remainder of 2026, the Canadians said they would make a monetary donation to the United Way’s BC Wildfire Recovery Fund instead.
An unfortunate trend is emerging: wildfires in the province are affecting fireworks night. Canadians have postponed or cancelled fireworks shows in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2023 because of wildfires.
Vancouver usually hosts about six to nine fireworks nights per season; they held five this season, before the cancellations on Aug. 13 and 27.
Although fireworks night at the Nat won’t happen again this season, the Canadians are still giving fans something to cheer about. They’ve been the second-best team in the Northwest League over the second-half of the season. And top Toronto Blue Jays prospects JoJo Parker and Brandon Barriera have also earned recalls to the Canadians.
On top of that, Jays prospect Jake Casey was just named Northwest Player of the Week after smashing four home runs and 13 RBIs.
There’s also one last chance to grab a 75-cent hot dog tonight at the Nat, with this being the last Tuesday home game on the Canadians’ schedule.
